Marimba Four Hands (2009)
a cycle of five movements scored for two marimbists playing together on one instrument. The first and last movements take their titles from children’s-book allegories of birth (Maurice Sendak’s In the Night Kitchen) and death (Margaret Wise Brown’s Goodnight Moon). The three middle movements, Soakin’ Wet, Snoozin’ Down, and Short’nin’ Bread, are named for a baby’s three big jobs: playing, eating, and sleeping.
